Laboratory of Genetics and Plant Breeding

Head of the Laboratory of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Dr.a.sciences, professor
Partoev K.P.

The laboratory of genetics was organized in 1982, and in 2018 it was renamed to the laboratory of genetics and plant breeding at the Institute of Botany, Plant Physiology and Genetics, Tajikistan National Academy of Sciences (IBPPG TNAS).

The organizers of the laboratory were academicians Yu.S. Nasyrov and P.D. Usmanov.

The following were elected as the heads of the laboratory: V.A. Bobodzhanov -1982-1986, S. Naimov -1987-2011, F.Yu. Nasyrova – 2012-2018, K. Partoev – 2019 to the present.

Currently, the laboratory employs: two doctors of science, two candidates of science, two researchers, graduate students, undergraduates and laboratory assistants.

The objective of the lab:

Creation of a valuable collection of plants and promising varieties and hybrids of various crops, training of young scientists.

Tasks of the laboratory:

  • Collection of valuable genotypes of various page – x. plants and creation of a collection of valuable plant genotypes resistant to climate change and adverse environmental stress factors;
  • Creation of new hybrids and grades of page – x. crops (wheat, potatoes, legumes, Jerusalem artichoke, fodder, etc.) based on the use of genetic and breeding screening methods (selection, hybridization, mutagenesis, introduction) and physiological and biochemical testing;
  • Preservation of collection material of page – x. cultures under in-vitro and in-vivo conditions;
  • Writing and publishing recommendations, brochures, books, monographs;
  • Training of young scientific personnel;
  • Speeches through the media about the achieved scientific results.

RESULTS ACHIEVED

  • A valuable collection material has been created on Arabidopsis (110 samples), wheat (50 samples), legumes (20 samples), Jerusalem artichoke (20 samples), potatoes (10 samples), barley (5 variety samples), other crops (15 samples).As a result of the use of genetic, breeding, physiological and biochemical research methods, promising forms of wheat, barley, legumes, potatoes, Jerusalem artichoke, and other crops have been obtained.

MAIN SCIENTIFIC DIRECTIONS OF RESEARCH

  1. The laboratory conducts research on the collection and preservation of valuable genotypes, both from the territory of Tajikistan, and on the basis of attracting new genetic samples of plants from abroad;
  2. A lot of work is being done to create a collection of various plants, to preserve and use them in the breeding process;
  3. Work is underway to hybridize plants with such important crops as wheat, potatoes, legumes and Jerusalem artichoke;
  4. Changes in the genetic characteristics of plants during vaccination are being studied;
  5. The possibility of obtaining new useful plant genotypes based on the use of mutagenic factors is being studied;
  6. The physiological and biochemical parameters of new varieties of wheat, potatoes, legumes and Jerusalem artichoke are studied and the use of these parameters in genetic and breeding work to create new promising hybrids and varieties in the future;
  7. A model object of Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana L.) with various signal genes is preserved and propagated to assess the effect of extreme factors and effects on the gene pool of plant populations and analyze the mechanism of plant adaptation;
  8. The laboratory conducts scientific work on the genotyping of promising and native varieties of wheat, legumes, barley, oats, potatoes, Jerusalem artichoke, fodder crops, as well as Arabidopsis and Aegilops.
