Seminar – training GBIF, September 26-28, 2022

On September 26-28, 2022, a training workshop “Kick starting the biodiversity data publication process for Tajikistan” was held at the SAROB, the Khoja Obi Garm recreation area of the Varzob region of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The event was organized by the Institute of Botany, Plant Physiology and Genetics, National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan the in the framework of the Capacity Enhancement Support Programme (CESP 2022-001) which enables collaboration between GBIF, with financial support from the GBIF secretariat. 

The seminar was opened by the Director of IBPPG TNAS Dr. Bobozoda B.B. and Project manager Barotov. S.S.

This workshop is being conducted as part of a project to raise awareness and education in the area of data publication. The aim of the project is capacity development at the Tajik node on data publication and GBIF node management routines will enable the Tajik node to operate in accordance with GBIF guidelines for an efficient GBIF node and take efficient part in the GBIF Nodes community.

The participants to the workshop were teachers at:

  • IBPPG TNAS
  • Tajik National University;
  • Tajik State Pedagogical University named after S. Aini
  • Khatlon Scientific Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, Kulob
  • Mentors and specialists in the field creation data base, data management, scientific research from University of Oslo
  • GBIF Node manager for Uzbekistan

As a result of the workshop: participants learned how to generate QR codes, UUIDs and includes a practical demonstration, GRSciColl – the registry of scientific collections, scanner demonstration, how to use the image uploaded and how specimens appear on the GBIF testing website, data standards and DwC, basics of what the IPT does and how it fits into the workflow, how to log into the IPT and how to edit and save metadata, Data cleaning examples and tips and Data publication in GBIF.
